ONCE AGAIN we are being asked to vote yet again on another tax, a very long one — 10 years— for some very questionable projects. We are told that this region will be much more prosperous if we widened this road and extended the other. And oh, yes, if we want the 411 to I-75 connector we must vote in favor of this tax, even though no promises are made.

After waiting more than 25 years for this very necessary project, my own opinion — and I’m sure that of many others — is no more SPLOSTs or T-SPLOSTs or any other self-imposed taxes should be approved until we have an iron-clad promise to extend U.S. 411 to I-75 — soon — no matter who endorses it.

This connector must be as direct to I-75 as possible. No meandering around for miles and several traffic lights with a difficult and expensive connection.

Now I know in the weeks ahead, we will see nothing but positive propaganda in the Rome News-Tribune, except for the letters to the editor.

I wish the paper would print a few of the “cons” to balance this out, but that’s not likely to happen.

Just remember: It’s your money and it will be coming out of your pockets for 10 years. Do the math — it amounts to a lot of money.
