A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries after he was involved in a two-vehicle wreck on North Broad Street on Wednesday just after 5 p.m.

Rome police and Rome-Floyd Fire Department officials responded to the scene at the BP station located at 910 N. Broad St.

According to Pfc. Rick Robinson:

Mildred Duck, 67, of a Mountain Creek Road address, pulled out of Spider Webb Drive in her silver Toyota Tacoma onto North Broad Street. She pulled out in front of Jason Cosper, 41, of a Barker Road address, who had also pulled onto North Broad Street after traveling south on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Cosper hit Duck’s vehicle on the rear passenger side, causing him to wreck and slam into the road.

Robinson said Cosper was alert and conscious as EMS were treating him at the scene. He was taken to Floyd Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.

An FMC spokeswoman said Cosper was released Wednesday evening.

Some people really are heartless these days. The article clearly says who was to blame, but somehow the motorcyclist's clothing puts him at fault for his injuries? Ridiculous. So I guess the driver of a small car/truck that gets steamrolled by a semi-truck should be at fault for not wearing a helmet in their vehicle?..(they are not required to do so by law, nor are leathers required on a motorcyclist, but obviously both examples would provide more protection for the respected drivers...) A majority of motorcyclists are just out to enjoy a nice ride, not "show boat", and definitely not planning on getting ran over by an inattentive idiot. I do not own or ride motorcycles, but I definitely make myself aware of them on the roads. If people were less concerned with their radios, phones, gps, etc., and more concerned with their surroundings, there would be less articles like this. Guaranteed, a motorcyclist is paying more attention than most other drivers drivers on the road simply because of the amount of attention/concentration it takes to operate a motorcycle.

I agree with most comments from both sides, but answer this why is the people in the cars first defense "I didnt see them".People with brightly colored bikes, still have cars pulling out in front of them.It is also very easy to tell by comments who rides and who doesnt. The law should protect both sides ex: a biker showing out should get burned to the full extent of the law however, same goes for the cars. At least motorcycles have paid for the right to be on the road ie: tags, taxes. Never seen any of these bicycles with a tag, blinkers, taillights, headlights, etc. but they seem to get more rights than anyone, so make them pay for that priveledge or get them off the road! I am praying for Jason and his family.

Personally I think Crawfish is right on and definatley is as much deservant of his opinion as you are. Sorry for any one's loss but lfe and death happen every day in this world. As one famous motorcylcle lover (Jerry Garcia) once said in a song, "no one gets out alive". If you are sensitive to opinions that do not fit into your lifestyle you need to read something else. The article he commented on was where his opinion was centered and had nothing to do with anyones mother husband daughter aunt parent inlaw or whatever.

It works both ways. But the biggest majority of the time it is the person in the cars fault. If you can't be more careful and aware of the cars, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, etc. around you then you don't need to be behind the wheel(s) of anything.

"I've also witnessed motorcycles driving well above the speed limit, hugging the centerline, driving around stopped traffic, lane hopping, tail gating, and ripping through parking lots with no regard for others or themselves. "

In certain situations riding near the centerline (not on the line, not over the line) is the best way for a motorcyclist to make sure he is seen by oncoming cars (who may turn in front of him) and to be visible in the side mirrors of vehicles in front of him.

The other behaviors are dangerous and unnecessary. And, unfortunately, not limited to motorcycle riders.

It is very hard to see motorcycles, especially when the sun is glaring at you. I saw a guy recently wearing a flourescent green shirt and he was much more visible. Maybe if they would wear a vest like this or something. A friend of mine was wearing shorts and had a wreck and was thrown off with terrible road rash on his leg. Now three years later, the doctors say that they will have to amputate it. If he had had on leather, it probably would not be necessary. Just saying...

Crawfish.creek how insensitive a person can you be? Your comment could have easily been kept to "It works both ways."

My husband was a motorcycle rider until someone turned into his lane of traffic. He died on impact! Someone's STUPIDITY and ILLEGAL driving took a son, brother, daddy, and husband that we will never get back.

Many people like myself read these articles and post. We pray for physical healing for the riders and the family members who love them. We know to well the pain the loss can be.

It is NOT ILLEGAL to not wear leathers and boots and because they wear T-shirts, jeans or shorts. It is however one of the most insensitive and disrespectful comments I've read for you to say "how stupid can someone be." I pray this riders family and other families like myself do not read your comments. No amount of clothing would have saved my husband that day. Which is the case of many who have lost a loved one on a motorcycle at no fault of their own.

I also assure you speeding or not speeding there are NO NEARLY INVISIBLE MOTORCYCLES, only people who need to pay more attention and focus on the road!

I am glad your experience on Shorter, with a careless driver(not motorcycle) left you alive and well. I just hope your words and comments next time will not be so careless.

I'm sure that this is the first time and probably the last time that this will ever happen BUT I agree with crawfish on every word. The younger bikers could take some lessons from the older ones on safety and proper dress for biking.

And I am sick of seeing signs, stickers, posts, etc that say Watch Out For Bikers. I watch out for everyone. They are not in a special class and they are not the safest drivers either.
