The 9-year-old Rome Red Sox suffered a tough loss in the Dizzy Dean district finals on Tuesday night in Dallas, but the team’s season is far from over.

The Red Sox — who suffered a 5-4 loss in extra-innings to Bartow Blue — have qualified for the Select state tournament, which begins in roughly two weeks in Canton.

During Tuesday’s game at New Georgia Park in Dallas, the Red Sox outhit Bartow, 11-6.

Conner Hughes led the way, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. He produced singles in the fifth, third and fifth innings.

Daulton Waddell pitched for the Red Sox, limiting Bartow to one earned run. Waddell worked 4 1-3 innings and held Bartow to four hits. He finished with eight strikeouts, and had 20 strikeouts in 12 innings in the tournament.
