When the closed-captioning was activated June 7, I thought I accidentally activated it with the remote. I attempted deactivation. It didn’t work. I have a second converter, and I replaced the first to no avail. Closed-captioning persisted.
In the beginning the captioning was in large print and intrusive. It would appear at the top of the screen and cover actors faces. Then it was adjusted to appear at the bottom of the screen most of the time. The print size even varied, but for persons not in need of captioning, it is a major distraction.
What necessitated a change to continuous closed-captioning? A www.VITAC.com Internet blog cited, “Thanks to the 21st Century Video Communications and Assembly Act, more and more content are being captioned,...”. The National Association of the Deaf and other organizations are “fighting to close” a loophole against their interests. But what about the interests of persons that are not hearing impaired? The old, simple television menu that allowed for captioning to be turned on or off as need required would be a fair solution.
Further reading of the blog revealed the loophole in the law is “any content that’s posted only online, and not on television, is not required to be captioned. This is a deep concern because more and more video content is being posted solely online.” The blog begins with, “Today is the day of the #caption. This social movement in social media (Twitter, Facebook, Google+, etc.).” Are business interests using an organization for impaired persons to further exert more control over the airwaves and the Internet? And what comes next?
With the present-day technology wealth extraction industries seeking to control every aspect of our daily lives, what will be the next fees for services rendered? With senseless, silly programming occupying too much airtime and Internet programming, viewers should be paid to watch much of the programming and commercials. But, there is no end to business interests seeking to extract tribute, and the political enablers that continue to make it possible as the price to remain in office. What new law or laws are in the works governing the Internet and the airwaves profit seeking?

I understand what you wrote and always repost it so you know exactly what I am referring to.
I find it makes it easier than engaging in the back in forth of "No that is not what I said"

Posters like you will soon have all comments shut down and I think that's fine. Won't have to be exposed to your lunacy
I reply: Really? So you advocate censorship....How very un-American.
Typical Conservatives...When I am caled "Gay or Horse Manure" Not a peep....Yet when I point out that the premise of a letter is lunacy.
...well the sky is falling and that dude is such a meanie...
Thanks for catching my typo though...It should of read "I was unaware I was gay"

Being gay and all like almost a whole 2 percent of the population tells us what a freak show you are in real life along with your idiotic attacks on little old ladies and anyone else that writes a letter to the rome news, including the author of the above letter to the editor.
I reply: I was unaware is was gay....I mentioned that to my wife and she fell out of her chair laughing.....Thanks a bunch for making her laugh...
I do have however several dear friends who are gay. How do you think them being 2% of the population means they should be discriminated against?
Oh Never Mind......GAWD says it's OK.....
I stand by my comments.....Williams letter proposes we are controlled by closed captioning....It's Barking Mad as Richard Dawkins would say.
And yet you vigorously defend it....Hmm......

You Wrote:why can't you just NOT comment if something doesn't apply to you or hold your interest
I reply: You know nothing of me so how are you able to tell me what applies as an interest for me?
Must be that Jedi mind thing.
Look....I suggest you reread Williams letter again and reconsider your assertion that i am just some Smart A&&&*S.
I also recommend you read Williams last few letters.
All of them are full of conspiracy theories devoid of facts.
I truly believe he should seek counseling.

I read your letter repeatedly and no matter how i try it is still indicative of severe delusional tendencies.
I recommend you seek help..
