Charles and Jewel Armstrong of Lindale celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on Friday.

They were married on June 8, 1957 at the home of Rev. John Mathis, who performed the wedding.

Mrs. Armstrong, the former Jewel Virginia Mills, grew up in Lindale and graduated from Pepperell High School. She is the daughter of the late Homer and the late Addie Mills. She is the sister of the late Jr. Mills, the late Harvey Mills, the late Lonnie Mills, Herman Mills, the late Bunk Mills, and Myrtice Busby. Jewel was a stay at home mother until her youngest baby went to school. Years later she retired from Astro Dye after being with them for 17 years.

Mr. Armstrong grew up in Centre, Ala. He is the son of the late Charle and Gladys Armstrong. He is the brother of the late Maxine Garrett, the late Frances Haney, the late Jackie Armstrong, Hubert Armstrong, and Barbara Jo Crane. Charles started out his career working on cars in Lindale. He eventually started driving a gas truck and retired from Morgan and Hunt Oil Company in 2006.

Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong have six children. Kathy Tucker of Silver Creek, Charles (Cecil) Armstrong of Taylorsville, Wayne Armstrong of Cedartown, Kenny Armstrong of Adairsville, Brenda Jones of Lindale, and the late Hubert Armstrong. They also have 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. They also have several nieces and nephews.

They are active members of Eden Valley Baptist Church. They say the key to a long and happy marriage is faith in God and always love and trust each other. They love to spend time with family, grandkids and great-grandkids.
