Donavon Murphy’s Three Rivers Auction will host his first auction in the new Mount Berry Square mall location on June 9.

Murphy has developed a nature-themed three-dimensional entrance to the store, which is located at the Sears’ end of the mall in the former Dollar Tree location.

Murphy said he has dabbled in the auction business for years but this will mark the first time he’s tried to open an auction house. “I’ve sort of been dabbling after I went to an auction school in 2002,” Murphy said.

Three Rivers Auction will offer everything from antiques to collectibles and all manner of memorabilia. “I’ll have collectible toys, figurines, movie memorabilia, collectible pot-tery, art work,” Murphy said. I will take items on consignment but it’s not clean out your garage stuff. If it has value and is cool, we’ll be happy to sell it.”

One of the items that will be on the block during the first auction June 9 is a Lydia Darvas painting with the bidding slated to start at $50,000. The Miami-based artist has devel-oped a style that frequently includes hidden objects in surrealistic backgrounds.

Murphy will also offer items of furniture during his auctions, some of it modern, but much of it the antique variety. One of the initial offerings will be a 1790 vintage dresser.

Seating in the mall space will initially be set at 150 but Murphy said that he has the ability to reconfigure his space as needed.
