Polk’s Winthrop welcomes Alan Dean

Winthrop at Polk welcomes Alan Dean as its new executive director.

A resident of Bartow County, Dean graduated from Chattooga High School and later continued his education at Berry College. He is a registered nurse and physicians assistant, graduating from the Medical College of Georgia. He also holds a master’s degree in theology and counseling from Lee University.

Dean has been a member of the Winthrop Senior Living family for a year, coming from Winthrop Court where he was the resident services director. There, he says, he formed his own philosophy of the Winthrop way stating “servant leadership” should be at the heart of every provider of care.

Occupational therapist Sarah McCollum joins Floyd Medical

Occupational therapist Sarah McCollum has joined Floyd Medical Center’s rehabilitation services department.

McCollum works with patients who have impaired mobility or independence due to injury, illness or disease, helping them to relearn activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming and self-feeding. In addition, she helps patients build their strength and endurance as they re-learn skills and tasks they had previously mastered such as cooking, laundry and computer skills.

“Occupational Therapy is a vital part of what our patients receive in our program, and Sarah is doing an excellent job. We’re glad to have her as part of our team,” said Andi Russell, coordinator for inpatient and acute rehabilitation services.

McCollum holds a master’s degree in occupational therapy from the Medical College of Georgia. She is certified in Physical Agent Modalities.

McCollum is member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the Physical Therapy Association of Georgia.

She and her husband, Clay, a sports medicine physical therapist with Floyd Physical Therapy and Rehab, live in Rome and are members of Connect Rome Church.

Clay McCollum joins Floyd Physical Therapy

Rome native Clay McCollum has joined the staff of Floyd Physical Therapy and Rehab. He is working as a sports medicine physical therapist assessing and treating musculoskeletal injuries. He specializes in working with local athletes to help them return to the field or court. Using technologically advanced equipment and well-researched therapy techniques, McCollum provides customized therapy care plans to meet his patients’ needs.

“An athlete himself, Clay understands the desire to play, and he uses that knowledge to create functional therapy activities for his patients,” said Jamie Steele Brannon, program leader. “He always presents with a smile and a fun attitude that gains his patients’ trust. We are very blessed to have him as part of our team.”

A Coosa High School graduate, McCollum holds a doctor of physical therapy degree from the Medical College of Georgia and a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science from Kennesaw State University. In addition, he has received advanced training in treating sports and running injuries.

McCollum is member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the Physical Therapy Association of Georgia.

He and his wife, Sarah, an occupational therapist in Floyd Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Services department, are members of Connect Rome Church.
