I AM WRITING about the defeat of the 1-cent SPLOST. All of the taxpayers of Rome and Floyd County have had to tighten their belts to make ends meet in this economy, but our commissioners keep spending.

The vote against the SPLOST shows most Floyd Countians agree that it is time to stop spending our hard-earned tax money and wait until the economy fixes itself. The commissioners and other groups have spent millions of dollars on a footbridge that will let people cross a creek. Is this footbridge more important than our roads that we need to travel to work or to shop or to the hospital?

Our police force needs new equipment, and the money spent on that footbridge could have replaced several cruisers and paid for other equipment.

It is time to quit spending and use our tax dollars more wisely. To everyone who voted against the SPLOST, thank you.
