The owner of a Nelm Street rental property called police after noticing damage to the air conditioning unit at the rental property, reports state.

According to Rome police reports:

It appeared to police that someone had attempted to remove the unit and had tried unsuccessfully to cut the copper tubing.

A pair of pliers was left at the scene, and police say there was evidence a cutting torch was also used in the attempted theft.

The air conditioner sustained an estimated $800 in damage, but no copper was taken.
