Roman Roast on the River second annual barbecue competition will be Friday, May 13, and Saturday, May 14 at Ridge Ferry Park. The event is $5 per person, and children younger than 7 get in free Saturday, May 14.

Friday, May 13, events — including a wing tasting and a male beauty pageant — will start at 5 p.m. At 8 p.m. there will be a concert by A1A Jimmy Buffet Cover Band, opened by Jerry on the Moon.

Saturday, May 14, festivities begin at 9 a.m with the Miss Bar-B-Quetie pageant. Other activities include a car show, inflatables, pony rides, swings and a petting zoo.

The barbecue tasting is at 11 a.m. There will be a tent filled with samples, and the people’s choice award will be announced at 2:30 p.m.

Participants can test their skills in the ultimate game of corn toss, with a chance at prize cash money. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and is $20 for each team of two. The competition begins at 10 a.m.

Battle of the Bands will go from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Area bands have been competing for weeks, and now it’s down to the top four. The winner will claim the 2011 Battle of the Bands title and open for KISS Army on May 21 at the DeSoto Theatre.

Proceeds will benefit the RFPRA Challenger Sports Program and to help children who cannot afford to play sports.
