Police said that in an attempt to prevent police from taking his drug stash, a Rome man swallowed an unspecified amount of marijuana while being arrested and charged with shoplifting, reports stated.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Rome police were called to the CVS on Maple Street on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 8, after an employee reported seeing a man hiding merchandise on his person.

Police arrested Herbert Sebastian Shiflett, 20, of 3183 Rockmart Highway, Rome, and charged him with shoplifting, obstruction or hindering law enforcement and tampering with evidence, all misdemeanors.

Officers said Shiflett resisted officers while they were handcuffing him and swallowed an unspecified amount of pot.

He was taken to the Floyd County jail where he was released on $1,350 bail.
