A freezing rain advisory has been issued from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

Winds could gust as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible.

Tim Herrington, Floyd County Emergency Management Agency deputy director, said there is potential for the accumulation of as much as a quarter-inch of ice.

Herrington said county residents should keep monitoring the weather throughout the watch, online or on television, and be cautious if they have to drive on icy roads. “The most dangerous thing is ice building up on roads, especially on bridges and overpasses,” he said.

Ice could potentially affect power lines and cause outages, Herrington added.

The NWS will provide updates as conditions change. A “watch” means conditions are favorable for bad weather, while a “warning” means a storm is occurring or likely.
