The Shorter men dominated the scoring in the paint and on the fast break, taking a Gulf South Conference road victory at Valdosta State, 75-69, on Saturday.

Walter Hill scored a season high 28 points, including 6-for-11 shooting from behind the arc.

The win snaps a Shorter (8-4, 2-2 GSC) conference losing streak and gave the Blazers their second straight home loss in GSC play.

Shorter never trailed in the first half, and built as much as a 10-point lead, 31-21 with 4:40 left after Dedric Ware con-nected on a jumper off the Brandon Pullman assist.

Hill paced the first half, scoring 12.

Ware scored nine in the opening half, while also adding four steals and four assists. Ware scored 18 on the game, tying his previous season high set on Nov. 29 against West Ala-bama.

The second half saw the duo of Hill and Ware continue to lead the scoring again — 16 for Hill and Ware with nine.

It's a sad fact that America's institutions of higher learning are now just minor leagues for professional sports. Admission standards? Don't apply if one is proficient in a particular sport. Criminal record? Again, doesn't matter if you're an athlete.

I would imagine after such great losses in the academic department, sports are going to be the only thing Shorter is good for...

Now if we can only get everyone in Rome into the NBA after college...
