A sewer spill discharged approximately 2,500 gallons of waste into an unnamed tributary of the Oostanaula River near the intersection of Kingston Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on January 2 at 2:20 p.m., according to Rome Water and Sewer Division reports.

The spill occurred approximately 850 feet northeast of the intersection of Kingston Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Grease and roots in the sewer main caused the spill and were removed. The sewer main was thoroughly cleaned by workers, the report stated.
