A Rome man was arrested early Thursday morning on charges he led cops on a chase in a stolen car, reports stated.

According to Floyd County police, Rome police and Floyd County Jail records:

Deangelo Antwon Turner, 23, of 246B Park Road, was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, driving on roadways laned for traffic, theft by taking-motor vehicle, reckless driving, speeding, fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, failure to wear safety belts and license violations.

Rome police tried to stop Turner around 12:30 a.m. when an officer noticed him speeding on Second Avenue. Despite attempts to pull him over, Turner continued onto Broad Street, South Broad Street and Black’s Bluff Road.

He turned into the parking lot of the Black’s Bluff corrections camp, almost striking another police car before turning around and heading back towards downtown. Floyd County police deployed spike strips on Black’s Bluff Road, knocking out the tires of the car.

Turner continued on Black’s Bluff Road, turning at Park Road, then into a private drive at 246B Park Road, where police arrested him. The car, a blue Toyota Tercel, had been reported stolen earlier from that location.

Bond for Turner was set at $18,050.
