Jozell Payne, 76, was pronounced dead at 9:54 a.m. at his home, said Floyd County Coroner Barry Henderson, who also declined to provide details, referring questions to the Floyd County Police Department.
Maj. Mark Wallace, a spokesman for the police department, called the death “suspicious” but did not elaborate further, saying the investigation was ongoing.
The body has been sent to the state crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy, which is standard procedure in such cases.
