Late rally not enough for Rome Braves

Final: Savannah 5, Rome 4 (State Mutual Stadium)

The turning point: The Sand Gnats scored three runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead. The Braves cut the lead to 5-4 in the bottom of the eighth when they scored two runs, but the lead was too much to overcome.

Who did what for Rome: Robby Hefflinger was 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Sergia Miranda was 3-for-4. Tony Mueller was 2-for-5. Fernando De Los Santos, Kyle Kubitza, William Beckwith and Abner Abreu each had one hit. Beckwith and Kubitza both homered.

On the mound: Jarrett Miller, who dropped to 3-1 on the season, took the loss for the Braves. He pitched 3 2-3 innings, gave up six hits, four runs and struck out four. Rafael Briceno and John Cornely pitched in relief.

Next Game: The Braves continue their series against Savannah tonight at 7 p.m.
