R.O.M.E. CONCERT — Tuesday, Oct. 6, 7:30 p.m., Rome City Auditorium, free. The Northwest Georgia Winds and guests present “Milestones: Anniversaries in Music.” sbaltzer@shorter.edu

CHEROKEE ART — The last exhibit in the year-long series “Cherokee Art” at Chieftains Museum through Oct. 24. Featuring examples of Cherokee-made basket weaving, pottery, paintings, Cherokee clothing, dolls, flutes, jewelry, stone and wood carvings and gourd art. Many items available to purchase. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and $2 for students. 706-291-9494

TROUT UNLIMITED CHILI COOK OFF — Saturday, Oct. 10, Ridge Ferry Park. Gates open at 10 a.m. Winners are announced at 2:30 pm. www.coosavalleytu.org

CLASSIC CAR CRUISE IN — Saturday, Oct. 10, 5 pm, downtown, free. Crank your classic and roll into Rome. Hosted by Rome Downtown Development Authority. downtown2@romega.us

JOHN WISDOM WAGON TRAIN & TRAIL RIDE — Saturday, Oct. 17, Ridge Ferry Park. Wagon train departs at 8:30 a.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids 12 and younger. Commemoratng the heroic ride of mail carrier John Wisdom, who rode 11 hours to warn Rome of impending attack, saving Rome from early destruction from Union forces. The ride departs Ridge Ferry Park, heads to Shannon and back into Rome for the Grand Parade down Broad Street at 5 p.m. Coggins papers are required. Western dance to follow at 7 p.m. at Ridge Ferry Park. Separate admissions re charged for the ride and dance. 706-295-5576

ROME LITTLE THEATRE: STEEL MAGNOLIAS — Friday and Saturday, Oct. 16-17 and Oct. 23-24, 8 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 18 and Oct. 25, 2:30 p.m.; Thursday, Oct. 22, Special “Ladies Night Out” fundraiser performance (reception 5:30 p.m. and show at 7 p.m.). 706-295-7171

MYRTLE HILL CEMETERY TOURS — Saturday, Oct. 17. Tours depart: 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m. Adults are $8 and $5 for children 12 and younger. Tour guides lead guests through the intricate paths, tell stories, and note symbolism of the cemetery, circa 1857. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water. Moderate to strenous walk with steps and slopes involved. 706-295-5576

HISTORIC BERRY BIKE TOURS — Saturday, Oct. 17, 10 a.m., Oak Hill and the Martha Berry Museum, free. Reservations encouraged but not required. Participants must furnish own bicycles, and helmets should be worn by all riders. Tours of the main campus will include Roosevelt Cabin, Berry College Chapel, “Log Cabin” campus and Berry’s famed Ford Buildings. 706-368-6775

GEORGIA LITERARY FESTIVAL — Saturday, Oct. 17, 10 a.m. Four Georgia writers, all with connections to Rome, will be honored at this year’s festival, including Calder Willingham, Jeanne Braselton, Melanie Sumner and Anthony Grooms. Other writers are also featured. 706-295-5576

HAUNTED ON BROAD: REVISITED — Saturday, Oct. 17, dusk. Haunted history and ghost lore in historic Downtown Rome. Moderate to strenuous walk with steps and slopes involved. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger. 706-295-5576

CHIAHA HARVEST FAIR — Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 24-25, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Ridge Ferry Park. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for students and seniors and $1 for children younger than 12. www.chiaha.org

HAUNTED HISTORY TOURS — Saturday, Oct. 24, 6 p.m. Oak Hill and the Martha Berry Museum, $6 per person. Participants take a tour back in time to study myths and legends of Southern Highlanders. Tours feature Possum Trot, Cabin in the Pines, and Barnwell Chapel, and explore Southern Highlanders beliefs about death, spirits and the after-life. 706-368-6775

FREE OUTDOOR MOVIE AT BRIDGEPOINT PLAZA — “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” (Rated PG), a free outdoor movie at Bridgepoint Plaza on Friday, Oct. 30. Movie concessions will be available for sale when the gates open at 6 p.m. The movie will start after sunset at 7 p.m. Bring chairs and blankets for lawn-seating. Pets are not allowed. www.rfpra.com

CHIEFTAINS MUSEUM: “HALLOWED HAUNTINGS” —Storytellers will weave frightening stories on Halloween night, Oct. 31. Stories for all ages at 7 p.m., stories ont advised for small children at 8 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and $2 for students.
