VERONA, Miss. — Zac Hutchenson and Chastity Floyd pulled up in an old Ford, then took the stage at Verona City Park to reenact the wedding of Vernon Presley and Gladys Smith — the couple who had a baby named Elvis three years later. The park is across from the old City Hall where a justice of the peace married the couple 79 years ago.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports that fans from around Lee County came for the annual show on Saturday.

Back on on June 16, 1933, friends took the couple to Pontotoc for a marriage license. Local historian Julian Riley says they went 20 miles from Tupelo and lied about their ages because Vernon Presley was 17 years old and needed his parents' permission to marry.
