After falling behind by double digits in the first and second half, Berry’s men’s basketball team won, 85-77, in double-overtime against Huntingdon on Wednesday at The Cage Center.

Berry improved to 4-11 on the season and surpassed its win total from 2011-2012. Huntingdon dropped to 5-11.

The first half saw Berry trail by as many as 16 points before cutting the deficit to five at halftime. Huntingdon nailed 50 percent of its field goals in that span while Berry missed 11 out of 13 free throws. Huntingdon capitalized on Berry’s nine first-half turnovers, scoring 14 off them.

In the second half, Huntingdon worked its way to another double-digit lead. Berry rallied to narrow Huntingdon’s lead to one point after a Jordan Teems‘ jumper at 1:52. After a Huntingdon basket, Berry responded on a Lake Graham putback at 1:10. Mac Whalen gave Berry the lead, 59-58, with a jumper at 41.5 seconds.

Hawk Ryan Petty tied the game, 59-59, with a free throw at 18.8 seconds. After a full timeout by Huntingdon with less than two seconds on the clock, Jeremiah Thomas’ halfcourt heave just rattled out, sending the game to overtime.

Berry scored the extra period’s first four points, but Huntingdon notched its next five to take a 64-63 lead.

Berry’s Jonathan Abrams scored on a driving layup at 1:33 to give the team a 65-64 advantage at 1:33.

Huntingdon’s Terry Moorer responded with an under-the-basket layin to give the team a 66-65 edge. Whalen knocked down the second of his two free throws to knot the game up, 66-66, with 56 seconds left. On a later fast break, Whalen hit the deck as he went for a layup.

He swished his two free throws to put the team ahead, 68-66, with 33 seconds. The Hawks responded with a Courtnee Edgar layup with 13.2 seconds to tie the game up, 68-68 at the end of the first overtime.
