Body found on Gadsden State Community College campus

The body of a female was found on the campus of the Gadsden State Community College in Centre early Wednesday, Nov. 28, according to the Cherokee County Herald.

According to Centre Mayor Tony Wilkie and Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, Investigators from the Centre Police Department, The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, The Alabama Bureau of Investigation, the District Attorney's Office and the Alabama Department of Forensic Science are on the scene of a homicide, conducting a joint investigation, on the campus of Gadsden State Community College on Cedar Bluff Road in Centre.

Mayor Wilkie stated that the body of a female victim, who is not a student at the college, was discovered on campus at approximately 9 a.m. this morning.

The campus was closed to students and most staff according to GSCC protocol pending completion of the investigation.

The investigation is in the early stages and according to Sheriff Shaver, more information will be released as it becomes available.
