For the second year in a row, Barnsley Gardens Resort has received a top spot in the annual Condé Nast Traveler reader’s choice list of the “Top 125 Golf Resorts.” Barnsley Gardens Resort was ranked no. 2 out of 25 Southern U.S. Golf Resorts. Destinations were evaluated based upon the following criteria: course design and access, golf staff, services, rooms, food, overall design and activities/facilities.

“We are thrilled to be part of this esteemed list for two years in a row,” said Sharon Cohen, Director of Marketing, “Barnsley Gardens Resort provides one of the best golf experiences in the region, combining a beautiful and challenging course with outstanding resort services including luxurious accommodations, gourmet dining, and fabulous customer service.”

The championship-caliber golf course was designed by Jim Fazio, who personally selected the 378 acres that the course occupies so it would blend into the natural surroundings. While golfers are teeing up, they will be able to experience spectacular panoramas nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The General offers stunning views of mountain peaks and emerald green fairways reminiscent of the courses of Scotland. Strategic hazards and dramatic tee shots descending to soft greens draw visitors from all over the world and offer challenges for golfers of all skill levels. Its breathtaking vistas and exciting play make it one of the Southeast’s most sought-after courses.

Barnsley Gardens Resort is no stranger to awards. This latest achievement caps recent honors including being named to Condé Nast Traveler’s “Gold List” for the past three years, Condé Nast Traveler’s “Top 240 Spas in North America, Hawaii, Central America and the Caribbean” list, and a 2010 “Premier Resort” by Golf Magazine. Additional resort accolades include a designation as the 2008 and 2007 GGCOA “Course of the Year,” 4.5 Star Rating in Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play” 2007, Travel + Leisure’s “500 World’s Best Hotels,” Condé Nast “Johansens Recommendation” in 2007, and an “Extraordinary” rating by the Zagat Survey of America’s Top Golf Courses (2007/2008).

Located just 60 miles north of Atlanta, this serene retreat offers an unrivaled combination of relaxation and world-class amenities. When not on the links, spa pampering, tennis, horseback riding, 12 miles of scenic hiking trails, lawn games, canoeing and kayaking, paintball and more await guests looking for an escape that feels more like an intimate residence than a resort. Hunting enthusiasts will enjoy Springbank Plantation, a unique hunting preserve that features a 16-station sporting clays course. The Springbank Plantation offers shotgun shooting instruction by the hour, half and full-day hunts, and one- or two-day Caesar Guerini Wings and Clays Schools.

Barnsley Gardens Resort’s accommodations are housed in multi-bedroom cottages that feature living rooms and beautiful porches with spectacular views of the grounds and gardens and are the perfect place for relaxing with friends. After a day on the links, golfers can head to The Woodlands Grill, the resort’s hunting lodge inspired restaurant overlooking the golf course. For a more casual environment, the Beer Garden offers outdoor seating and a menu featuring sausages, pretzels and beer. Fire pits are located throughout the property and are the ideal gathering place for enjoying a beer while roasting marshmallows for S’mores.
