“It is called a ramble because it is a self guided tour. We just get a map and a program and go,” said Mary Railey Binns, special events coordinator of the group.
The group is coming from all over Georgia and will be staying at the Hawthorn Suites downtown until Sunday.
“We want to preserve Georgia’s historic resources and raise awareness towards endangered sites,” stated Binns.
The 180 participants will visit many sites on their tour, including the Rome Area History Museum, the newly renovated and restored Masonic Lodge, the Home on the Hill at Darlington School, the DeSoto Theatre, Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Oak Hill and the Rome News-Tribune.
The Georgia Trust Web site said that Saturday will begin with breakfast and orientation at the Rome City Auditorium with a special presentation on the city’s history by local history buff Anne Culpepper.
