SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — The University of Sioux Falls has picked Central Missouri defensive coordinator Jed Stugart as its new head football coach.

The Cougars have won three national NAIA titles in five years, though they move up to Division II next season. Coach Kalen DeBoer stepped down earlier this month to become offensive coordinator at Southern Illinois.

The school announced the choice late Saturday. Stugart spent last season as linebackers coach at UNLV, which fired its entire coaching staff in December. He was there just one season, after being head coach of Mid-America Nazarene for three seasons.

Sioux Falls has won back-to-back NAIA national championships at Barron Stadium in Rome, which has hosted the NAIA title game in 2008 and 2009.
